Multimedia artist Perry Barton was born in Atlanta, Georgia. The youngest of five children, he was surrounded by the sounds of pop, rock, and country music from the beginning. At seven he began taking organ lessons, and by eleven he was composing and recording his own music. He was also creating his own artwith Flair pens, Spirographs, Lite-Britesand already displaying an affinity for bright, colorful, geometric, abstract works.
In high school, he sang in the chorus, acted in plays, and formed a band. He also began to experiment with 8mm film. In a summer honors program, he wrote, produced, and directed a satirical soap opera ("All My Problems"), shot on a then-costly 3/4" black and white reel-to-reel videotape recorder.
While earning his BS in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech, Perry studied computer programming, soon writing an application which generated personalized ASCII-Art calendars. At the same time, he was learning the art of multi-track recording, in a friend's 4-track studio.
After graduating, he began his career as a professional live and studio musician. In the 90s, he added web design and scripting to his list of skills, developing sites for commercial and nonprofit clients. In 1996, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee.
Today, Perry continues to explore the creative areas that have always engaged him, most often from the comfort of his digital A/V home studio. He records CDs of original music, and composes and produces jingles for radio and TV. He directs, shoots, and edits music videos and short films. He creates the striking abstract artwork you see in this online gallery, using a unique technique he developed himself. |
